Providence / Uguru Data Sciences

Over four years at Uguru Data Sciences, I worked with Providence Healthcare on several high-impact initiatives that improved the way caregivers and administrators accessed, understood, and acted on financial and operational data. My role centered on UX research and design, reporting tool enhancements, and cross-functional collaboration with stakeholders, developers, finance professionals, and hospital leadership.

Accountability Matrix

Challenge:
Providence needed a scalable way to connect caregivers to their cost centers, ensuring reporting outputs reflected organizational accountability structures. Existing processes were manual and fragmented, making it difficult to generate role-specific reporting insights across multiple platforms.

My Role & Contributions:
  • Designed the user experience and workflows for the Accountability Matrix in collaboration with stakeholders
  • Partnered with developers to build a system that programmatically associated caregivers with cost centers
  • Ensured the data output was structured for seamless use across other Providence reporting platforms like PowerBI and ValueLens
  • Iteratively improved the tool based on user feedback and changing business needs/requirements

Outcome: The Accountability Matrix became a foundational dataset for multiple enterprise reporting systems, enabling:
  • Personalized reporting based on user role and accountability
  • Streamlined access to financial insights for caregivers, managers, and executives
  • More reliable, transparent business intelligence across Providence’s reporting ecosystem

Help & Training Resources

Challenge:
As Providence rolled out the ValueLens financial reporting tool, users needed accessible training and self-service resources. Early adopters reported difficulty finding help materials, slowing onboarding and adoption, and surfacing terrible NPS survey results.

My Role & Contributions:
  • Conducted user research and usability studies to understand pain points in learning and support
  • Designed wireframes and high-fidelity prototypes for a centralized Help and Training resource center
  • First launched the solution in SharePoint, later redesigning and embedding it directly into ValueLens for in-app support
  • Collaborated with developers to implement features including modals, training tips, and context-sensitive help

Outcome:
The integrated resource center improved user adoption and reduced training barriers by providing:
  • One-stop access to training, videos, tips, and support
  • Contextual support aligned to the workflows within ValueLens
  • A smoother onboarding experience for new users, resulting in faster time-to-value

Reports and Features

Challenge:
ValueLens, Providence’s custom-built financial reporting tool, needed ongoing improvements to remain effective and user-friendly. Stakeholders identified opportunities to:
  • Modernize outdated dashboards
  • Add advanced reporting features
  • Provide clearer role-specific insights

My Role & Contributions:
  • Researched and designed new report features to meet emerging business needs
  • Introduced machine learning visualization enhancements into ERP financial reports to provide deeper insights
  • Created sitewide Help tools within ValueLens, enabling users to self-train and troubleshoot without leaving the platform
  • Redesigned homepage dashboard to highlight KPIs more effectively and surface insights tailored to user roles
  • Integrated a new Content Management System solution to allow quick content editing via non developers

Outcome:
These enhancements significantly improved the usability and business value of ValueLens by:
  • Delivering more actionable financial insights through modernized visualizations
  • Reducing training burden via embedded help tools
  • Empowering caregivers, managers, and executives with dashboards that reflected their unique needs and decision-making contexts

Across these projects, my work helped Providence Healthcare connect people to data in meaningful ways—from structuring accountability data to embedding training resources and enhancing financial reporting. Each initiative required balancing user experience design with technical integration, while always keeping the caregiver and end-user experience at the center.
